Best lens to use to photograph paintings with a Nikon d80?
I inherited a Quantaray NF AF TECH 10, 70-300, quantaray NF AF f= 35-135, quantaray f24mm, a nikon af 35-70mm and a nikon AFf 28-80 I just can't seem to get good photo's with these. I've gone outside on a ladder with the paintings on black cloth. Also I use the70-300 for my sons rugby games but as far as the rest go could you recommend what to sell and what to buy to get sharper images of paintings?
You need to be looking for lenses with the least amount of barrel distortion. Also, with a zoom lens, barrel distortion is most pronounced when the lens is that its widest end. So take the picture of the painting zoomed in from afar. If you find some barrel distortion from pictures you've already taken, may I suggest you use Adobe Photoshop CS2, it has a feature to rectify it:http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/adobephotoshopcs2/page2.asp
